About DeAndrade Designs
DeAndrade Designs is a husband and wife team, producing individually designed and handcrafted jewellery pieces from stirling silver and precious stones; Fernando (born in Brazil, 1982, and immigrated to Australia in 2005) and Alison (born in Perth, 1978, Western Australia).
Fernando started as an artisan jeweller in Brazil. Leaving home at 17, he travelled from town to town learning from other artisans how to work wire into exquisite pieces of jewellery. Making earrings, necklaces and bracelets from brass and copper wire, he would sell them on the street to earn enough to travel on to the next town, picking up more and more ideas and influences with each new area of Brazil he travelled to. He used many natural products that he found in nature, including stones, feathers and seeds to bring life and colour to his jewellery.
Alison met Fernando in Brazil in 2003 when she was travelling. She travelled throughout Brazil learning macramé and South American jewellery techniques. After getting married in Australia in 2006, Alison and Fernando started forming the idea of the jewellery business DeAndrade Designs. After further study in silver-smithery in Brasilia (Brazil's capital) in 2007, Fernando has now brought his techniques and unique, flamboyant style to Perth alongside Alison with her more contemporary style and design. Together, they are producing their pieces in Stirling Silver and 9ct and 18ct gold set with precious stones.
Presently, they have four collections:
- The Rio Collection - Traditional flamboyant South American inspired pieces.
- Natureza da Australia - Australian fauna and flora inspired pieces.
- Xique Collection - (Glamorous - Portuguese) Contemporary style collection.
- Zodiac Collection - Astrological characters with the glyph incorporated.
